Briefly: Australian Woman Fined, Jailed and Deported after Facebook post in UAE

39 Years old Australian woman, Jodi Magi, was detained, jailed and deported for updating her status on facebook in Abu Dhabi.

Jodi Magi was arraigned in court for using bad words and posting an image of a car in her Abu Dhabi apartment block that was parked across two disabled parking spaces.
Before her detention, Magi, who had lived in Abu Dhabi for 3 years, tried to voluntarily deport herself and pay the approximately $3,600 fine, but Abu Dhabi authorities insisted on arraigning her to court.

Magi was detained for 53 hours, shackled at the ankles, strip-searched, blood tested, forced to sleep on a concrete floor without a mattress or pillow and had no access to toilet paper or eating utensils. She was also forced to sign multiple documents in Arabic without any translation. In her reaction, Magi said, “I can happily say I AM SAFE & OUT OF JAIL AND ABU DHABI!”

Recall that the UAE government had earlier passed a law  to charge Dh250, 000, jail and deport expatriates for using abusive words on social media.
